How Estavia Came to Be
Estavia was founded in Chiang Mai in 2019 by a small group of professionals who had each, in different ways, watched families struggle through the practical aftermath of losing a parent or a senior family member. The recurring difficulty was not grief — it was paperwork. Documents stored in multiple locations, accounts known only to one person, property records in mismatched formats.
The founders — drawn from backgrounds in information management, adult education, and family communication facilitation — concluded that what most families needed was not advice from lawyers or financial planners, but a calm, structured introduction to the categories of information that matter and how to organise them while things are still straightforward.
The result was a set of plain-language seminars and workshops designed to be approachable for people at any stage of life, in any level of existing organisation. Since the first session in Chiang Mai, Estavia has worked with families from Thailand, Japan, Australia, and the United Kingdom — all drawn to the practical, non-advisory format.

Karen Whitmore
Programme Director
Karen has spent over fifteen years in adult education and curriculum development. She designs all Estavia programme materials and leads the Orientation seminars.
Priya Nanthakul
Information Management Lead
With a background in records and archival administration, Priya oversees the cataloguing workshop content and works directly with families during hands-on sessions.
Marcus Stahl
Business Continuity Facilitator
Marcus brings experience in organisational communication and process documentation. He facilitates the Family-Business Continuity Information Programme for business groups.
How We Work
Our Standards and Approach
Adult Learning Principles
All programmes are designed in line with recognised adult education frameworks — respecting participants' existing knowledge and encouraging active, reflective engagement.
Privacy of Participant Information
No personal documents or data are collected from participants. Session exercises use example templates only. Participant names and contact details are held strictly for administrative purposes.
Content Review Process
Programme materials are reviewed annually and updated to reflect any changes in commonly referenced administrative categories. No content is presented as current professional guidance.
Participant Wellbeing
Topics related to legacy and family continuity can carry emotional weight. Facilitators are trained to create calm, unhurried environments where participants feel comfortable to engage at their own level.
Plain Language Commitment
All written and spoken content is reviewed against a plain language standard before use. If a term requires explanation, that explanation is built into the material — not left as an assumption.
Group Size and Attention
We keep session groups manageable — typically no more than twelve participants — so facilitators can give appropriate time and attention to questions from each attendee.

Why Thoughtful Record Organisation Matters
Families who take time to sort their records before a significant life event — a move, a change in household composition, or the passing of a senior member — often find that the process itself opens important conversations. Those conversations don't require legal or financial professionals. They simply require a framework, some structure, and a willingness to look through what's there.
Estavia's work sits in that space. We are not a law firm, a financial planning service, or a document storage provider. We are an educational organisation that prepares families to have those conversations more easily, and to understand the categories of documentation that tend to matter so that nothing important is overlooked when attention is most strained.
The Chiang Mai context shapes how we approach this work. Families here often span multiple nationalities, hold assets in different administrative systems, and communicate across generational and cultural lines. Estavia's programmes acknowledge that complexity without trying to resolve it — our role is to map the terrain, not to direct the journey.
We believe that calm preparation is a form of care. When families approach record organisation as a shared activity rather than an emergency response, the results — both practical and relational — are meaningfully better. That is the understanding on which Estavia is built.
